Appraisals for Synagogue Collections

Judaica in Context is proud to specialize in appraisals for Synagogue collections, Executive Directors, Ritual Directors, and Chairpersons of Synagogue Art Committees.

We'll come in to talk with you about your needs. The first hour is always free.
We'll also come to speak to your board or committee to help strategize about what to do with your art and ceremonial objects or how to plan for acquiring future collections.

We are available to consult in the design and acquisition of new art commissions or in purchasing historic Judaica or artworks.

Here are some helpful pamphlets for congregations who are facing the challenge of managing their historic ritual objects and archives.

Insurance Appraisals

Synagogues contain a wide range of items that often require separate scheduing on a standard wall-to-wall insurance policy. These may inclulde:
  • Silver ritual objects
  • Torah Scrolls
  • Monumental sculptures and large, artistic pulpit decorations, including Ark Doors, Torah curtains and coverings
  • Fine Art works adorning the walls of lobbies, offices and social halls.
  •  Important historic archives, photographs and documents
  • Rabbinical libraries

In most cases, these items will be required to be separately scheduled with individual  insurance replacement values.

Aid in Identifying Unknown Treasures

Over the years, your congregation may have acquired many curious works of art, books, documents and other unknown objects. Some of these Judaica objects may have gained interest in the art markets over the years.

We can help identify unknown items and art works and offer advice on what to do with them.

Has your synagogue acquired a lot of art works and you don't have room to hang them? Or perhaps you have accumulated a lot of art that you don't wish to hang anywhere and they are consigned to a closet that could better be used for education supplies.

We offer walk-thrus and advice for downsizing synagogue contents.
